Omega Molecular announced today that it signed a contract to begin developing small amounts of its VitA Rice and Omega Maize in China. The effort is part of a joint venture among Omega, the Laizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Chinese seed producer Beijing Seed Company.
Jake Steubens, Omega's Director of Markeing, said of the venture, "This is really a win-win situation. Chen Zhangliang--a leading Chinese biotech researcher--observed as early as 1999 that there are no real links between Chinese seed companies and biotech companies. This joint venture opens a huge potential market for us, while providing our Chinese colleagues access to advanced biotechnology equipment and techniques."
